Synodical Bishop

Bishop Robert F. Humphrey offers leadership for our Synod and all our rostered ministers under the vision that we are all Ambassadors for Christ. His genuine love for people and the Gospel can be seen as he travels throughout the Synod. For the entire areas of responsibility for the bishop, please refer to Chapter 8 (Officers) of the Virginia Synod Constitution and find information regarding the bishop under Sections 8.10 to 8.12.02.

The Rev. Chris Price

Assistant to The Bishop

As assistant to the bishop, Rev. Chris Price provides support and oversight for the life of the Synod, its congregations, and its rostered leaders, primarily in the four conferences east of the Blue Ridge Mountains: Germanna, Richmond, Peninsula, and Tidewater. He coordinates support for the Synod candidacy committee, oversees the ministry of the Synod’s First Call Theological Education, and coordinates the lead gifts aspect of the Synod’s Forwarding Faith Campaign. Rev. Price represents the bishop and the Synod office at appropriate meetings and events east of the Blue Ridge.

Assistant to The Bishop, Director for Youth and Young Adult Ministries

The Rev. Dr. Dave Delaney provides vision and strategy for, outreach to, and formation of, Virginia Synod ELCA youth and young adults as Ambassadors for Christ. His main responsibilities include synod youth ministry, campus ministry, outdoor ministry, congregational resourcing for youth and young adult ministry, as well as being a representative of the bishop.

Mindy Reynolds

MCM, MSN, RN, Deacon, Synodical Minister for Healthy Leadership and Wellness

As the synodical minister for healthy leadership and wellness, Mindy Reynolds serves as resource facilitator for congregations, pastors, and lay rostered leaders. Through administration and oversight of multiple programs and initiatives, the synodical minister works with clergy and laity to nurture, develop, and enhance their capacity for healthy church leadership. Mindy oversees all aspects of the Healthy Congregations and Bridge builder initiatives, establishes and coordinates Pastoral Leadership Consulting Groups in conjunction with trained facilitators, and provides oversight for many leadership activities and events in the life of the synod. Additionally, she works collaboratively with Portico Benefit Services and other denominations to provide services and offer events that promote health and wellness.

Emily Pilat

Director of Communications

Emily Pilat works to communicate the story and mission of the Virginia Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as well as to educate and equip members of the Virginia Synod to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an ever-changing world. As the director of communications, she is the one to set and guide the strategy for all communications and public messages of the Virginia Synod. Emily is responsible for the synod website, publicizing events, the synod e-news, social media, and other forms of communication.

Rebecca Walls

Administrative Assistant to the Bishop/Office Administrator
Financial Bookkeeper

As administrative assistant to the bishop, Rebecca Walls is Bishop Humphrey’s right-hand woman.  She manages the bishop’s calendar and coordinates his travel and meeting arrangements.  Rebecca functions as the liaison for the call process with congregational call committees and as the bishop’s liaison with ecumenical leaders in Virginia. As the office administrator, she provides office services by implementing administrative systems, policies, and procedures, monitoring administrative projects, and providing supervision of support staff in the Office of the Bishop. As bookkeeper, she also handles the fundamental aspects of the synod’s financial record keeping system including managing accounts payable and receivable

Lenae Osmondson

Administrative Assistant in the Eastern Office of the Bishop

Lenae Osmondson works out of our Synod Office located in Norfolk. She provides administrative support for the synodical minister for Christian faith formation, synodical minister for healthy leadership and wellness, and the stewardship specialist in the areas of event planning, scheduling, record keeping, communication and publicity, finances, and technical support. Lenae provides administrative support for our ACTS (Ambassadors Community for Theological Study) and Roots & Wings programs, synod council, and our annual Gathering of the Ministerium.

Lisa Allagas

Administrative Assistant

Lisa Allagas supports our two assistants to the bishop, and synodical minister for healthy leadership and wellness with certain events, activities, and meetings.  Along with day to day administrative tasks, Lisa provides administrative support for the Annual Orientation to New to the Virginia Synod; the Annual Retired Rostered Leaders, Spouses, and Guests Luncheon; and compilation and revision of the Synod Council Resource Manual.  Additionally, she provides primary administrative support for the Annual Synod Assembly.  Lisa is also responsible for maintaining the synod’s ACS database.

Tammy Kasper

Administrative Assistant

If you call into the Synod office in Salem you may hear Tammy’s cheerful voice answer the phone. As administrative assistant, she performs general office support for the Synod office, which includes managing and distributing information within the Office of the Bishop. Tammy provides administrative support with registration for major events in the Synod.

Richard Hoffman

Financial Consultant

Richard Hoffman is our financial consultant responsible for the accounting operations of the synod.  In conjunction with the synod treasurer and financial bookkeeper, he is responsible for collating, preparing and interpreting reports, budgets, accounts, commentaries and financial statements, controlling income, cash flow and expenditure, supervising staff and liaising with synod staff and other colleagues.

George “Skip” Zubrod

Financial Consultant, Non-Stipendiary

Skip Zubrod is our financial consultant, non-stipendiary. He serves as an assistant to the elected Treasurer of the Virginia Synod, the Bishop, and the paid Financial Consultant of the Virginia Synod. The Financial Consultant, Non-Stipendiary works to support the mission of the Virginia Synod in being Ambassador’s for Christ. The Financial Consultant, Non-Stipendiary will work with the Bishop, Synod Council, and Synod Staff and assist in matters of financial planning, check signing, financial advice for the Synod and other financial matters as requested by the Bishop.
