Old Business:
Rejoice report: Pr. Mills:
Lutheran Council of Tidewater is dissolving: there is no administrative staff.
Our attendance is up a little; signage will depend on available money; I am working
with an “evangelism strategist”, Mr. Trace Smith.
Team Letter to the Bishop: it has been sent, but no response yet—the bishop will discuss with the planning group for the ministerium first.
Synod Assembly Lunchtime Workshops:
Contacts have been made with Dr. Buba re his topic and his availability to AAOT; we probably won’t have a copy of his address before assembly; therefore we will form some starter questions after we hear his address. Chip needs title and leaders of our workshop: Melinda presented a tentative plan: “Welcoming God’s Many Faces”; the group narrowed the topic down to 3 key questions—1. what needs to happen to inspire a congregation to reach out…? 2. How do we talk across culture and race? 3. What are the first steps in hosting, welcoming the guest? Pr. Mills will moderate.
Details for the Team’s work at Assembly: lunches for team, Room assignment, signage, AAOT cards, info sheets—e.g. what to discuss on blog, the region 9 plan, etc. Question cards for audience to respond to Dr. Buba; what do we need at our booth? Something about Rejoice’s new space; info sheets, resource booklets, posters re congregations in the revival and/or the Lutheran revival DVD ….
Team Blog: Melinda asked for help with ideas and topics for our blog: e.g. Vision2020,
asking for input on what would be helpful for congregations’ questions and needs re outreach, etc.
Revival Planning update: Melinda shared a draft of a letter re the “Seven Cities Revival” at Rejoice in the fall. The group discussed this effort as a “model” or “demonstration” event, with ELCA resource persons on hand. Bill prompted discussion of AAOT’s role and involvement in the event. Lee announced the “Rally in the Valley” in Oct., another revival effort. CeCee was asked about the next planning session.
New Business: 2020Vision document from synod—Bill urged at least an item 13, for minority growth in Virginia Synod congregations of 20%. We will brainstorm how to include our goals within the 12-point framework of the 2020 Vision Goals statement.
Upcoming Meetings:
Synod Assembly: Dr. Buba will be speaking Fri, 6/4 at 7:45-8:30, and his Keynote address will be Sat, 6/5 10-10:435am; he will meet with the team and delegates at our Sat workshops at 11am-noon and noon-1pm.
Next regular meeting of the team will be 7/18 in
The “Seven Cities Revival” is set for 10/1-2, 2010 at Rejoice and possibly another location.
We closed with prayer. We thank Resurrection for hosting us once again!!!
