There was much to celebrate over the weekend at Immanuel Lutheran in Bluefield West Virginia, and Central Lutheran in Burkes Garden. Special worship leaders and guests from throughout the synod joined these congregations to celebrate the achievement of seven members from Immanuel and Central that completed the Ambassadors Community for Theological Studies (ACTS) program. This took roughly four years to complete, and provided the opportunity to learn from a variety of Christian educational leaders including The Rev. Dr. Katherine Shaner, The Rev. Dr. Kathryn Klienhans, Dr. Martha Stortz, Dr. Terri Elton, The Rev. Dr. Dave Delaney, The Rev. Dr. Gaylon Barker, and The Rev. Dr. Mark Vitalis Hoffman.
By taking courses in Lutheran Confessions, Old Testament, New Testament, Christian’s Call, Spirituality and Leadership, and Biblical Models of Leadership, Elise Bowling, John Ertz, Marilyn Ertz, Naomi Levison, Ron Levison, Angie Miller, and Cathy Saddler have each successfully completed their work for certification in the ACTS program.
The Rev. Harvey Atkinson, a longtime ACTS Small Group leader, served as the worship leader with John Ertz assisting. The Rev. Tom Conley and Dave Delaney joined to help the congregations celebrate this long-awaited day. The Virginia Synod is thankful for these congregations long support of the ACTS program, and celebrates the fantastic leadership and dedication that these members have displayed!
