The Virginia Synod has canceled all in-person events sponsored by the Synod until at least Phase 3 of Virginia’s Reopening Plan. Even then, we will need to consider carefully whether gathering our members in large groups will be the wisest and safest way for us to continue our ministry together until additional safety features are in place.
The Youth Ministry Committee of the Virginia Synod has been considering our options for the coming program year – mainly, whether and how to hold our weekend events (Lost and Found, Winter Celebration, and Seventh Day). We want our members and particularly the Lutheran youth of Virginia to know that this conversation is continuing. We are unlikely, however, to have sufficient information to make decisions about in-person gatherings until at least September, 2020. In the meantime, we will continue to offer various online alternatives to our usual in-person events and be supportive of congregational youth and youth leaders in whatever way we can.
Our schedule includes:
Virtual Youth Assembly – Saturday, June 13, 2020 – 1:00-3:30 – including a Virtual Baccalaureate from 3:00-3:15 for all 2020 graduating high school seniors in the Synod.
Virtual Kairos – July 19-23 (Sunday evening through Thursday morning) – three large online gatherings during each day, along with small groups, and many of the other usual features: daily prayer, senior faith testimonies, open talent mike show, and much more! Registration information available very soon!
Virtual LAUNCH – TBA – We are planning to offer an opportunity for our graduated seniors to gather online for a three day event where we will consider issues of tending your faith vocational discernment as you enter your next phase of life. This will be useful for you whether you are headed to the workforce, military, gap year, college, or whatever. Dates and registration information will be available soon!
