On January 25th through the 26th Synod Council met at First Lutheran Church in Norfolk for their first meeting of 2019. Some highlights to share from this meeting include:
1. Young Adult Ministry program funded by Forwarding Faith. 
 The Young Adult ministry program is an excited group of young adults in the Virginia Synod. Thanks to funding from Forwarding Faith they plan to gather for a retreat at Camp Caroline Furnace on May 10-12, 2019. The Young Adult group will be provided an opportunity at the 2019 assembly to lift this new ministry and the ways Forwarding Faith campaign helped this ministry.
2. Synod Assembly Fee Schedule and Time Schedule Approved. 
Mark your calendars, this year’s assembly will be held at the Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse of the Cregger Center. on the campus of Roanoke College from June 7-8, 2019 starting at 12:30 PM
Synod Council also approved a fee schedule which reflects a 19% decrease in the cost of the Assembly registration, meals, and travel equalization for nearly all registrants. A detailed Fee Schedule will be included in the Assembly materials when they come out later in the spring.
3. New Conference Partnerships Formed and Two new membership positions added to the Synod Council
Synod Council approved the creation of five partnerships among our 11 conferences by a continuing resolution, ” to: provide for communication between this synod and conferences, promote or provide assistance for programs or projects, and provide balanced representation to certain organizational units. (S12.01.52.)” This has created the following conference partnerships:
Coastal: Tidewater and Peninsulas
Piedmont: Richmond and Germanna
Valley: Northern Valley, Central Valley, Page
Blue Ridge: Southern Valley and Southern
Appalachia: New River and Highlands
Per a recommendation from the Synod’s Tapestry Team, Synod Council approved the creation of two additional members on Synod Council for persons of color and/or whose primary language is other than English.
