Virginia Lutheran Homes, located in Roanoke, Virginia, is a social ministry organization focused on the care and well-being of seniors of various socioeconomic means through the management of HUD properties and a Life Plan community. VLH is also an active and contributing member of the Virginia Synod, therefore, we would like to share information about changes to our organization.
As of February 22nd, 2019, Virginia Lutheran Homes finalized the sale of Luther Manor, a HUD facility located in Virginia Beach, to House of David Preservation Society. House of David Preservation Society is a non-profit organization that owns and operates 49 HUD facilities across the United States, including eight in Virginia.
Due to their large size and presence within the HUD housing sector, they have access to government financing and tax credits that we do not. Within the next 12 months, House of David will make $1 million worth of improvements that include a new commercial generator and apartment upgrades. During this transition, no residents were displaced and their monthly rates have remained the same, per HUD regulations. All staff have continued in their positions and have become employees of Luther Manor Apartments, LLC.
While we are sad our relationship with Luther Manor has come to an end, we believe that this was truly in the best interest of the residents and staff of Luther Manor. Please note, we still manage Luther Crest, our HUD housing facility in New Market, Virginia we will continue to provide safe and affordable housing to seniors at that location.
